Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office investigates fatal shooting in Riverview

This scene behind me are what nightmares are made of."

This is how Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister is describing a violent scene inside a home in the Summerfield subdivision tucked in the Riverview area.

Just after 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon several calls were made to dispatch.

Chronister says a 14-year-old boy shot and killed his mother, shot her boyfriend five times, and attempted to shoot his older brother.

When deputies arrived, he says the teen then held the gun to his head.

"They come into contact with the young male and immediately begin to deescalate the situation," Chronister said.

After 16 minutes of negotiations and the use of a 40 millimeter projectile launcher, a less lethal form of gaining compliance, Chronister says the teen was taken into custody.

"This families lives have been changed forever. They lost a mother. This mother's life is over and when I tell you that this is one of nightmares this is heartbreaking."

The mother's boyfriend was taken to Tampa General and is listed as critical and is sedated. The older brother was not hurt.
